Syria and Hezbollah Positions on Tribunal Coincide
National Liberal Party issued a statement following the party’s weekly meeting exposing an overlap in the positions of Syria and the March 8 coalition on the Special Tribunal for Lebanon.
In Cairo on Wednesday, Syria objected to the inclusion of a clause in the final statement of the Arab Foreign Ministers meeting in support of the tribunal’s launch.
In addition, the March 8 coalition, Hezbollah in particular, objected the memorandum of understanding between the Lebanese government and the tribunal.
The NLP noted that this indicated that Syria and the coalition’s positions on the tribunal were similar.
The NLP statement also mentioned the party’s concern over the kidnapping of MEA employee Joseph Sader in mid-February, and rejected calls to deem it a simple security breach.
