Obstructing Third Will Come to an End after Elections
Lebanese Forces MP George Adwan said, during a dinner organized by the LF engineering sector on Friday evening that the upcoming parliamentary elections would be important and fateful, and called for supporting the state in reasserting its authority throughout the country.
He added the settlement reached during the Doha Agreement, which consolidated the obstructing third vote in cabinet, was exceptional as it paved the way for elections but could not build a powerful state.
“This settlement will fall apart after the elections because if we win, we will govern and if not we will form an opposition,” he added.
He noted the Special Tribunal for Lebanon proved that no one could continue to use assassinations to frighten people, because he said those who committed such crimes would now be punished.
He called for forging good relations with Syria however he added “this issue cannot be achieved if Damascus does not acknowledge Lebanon is a free and independent state.”
He said the Syrians should know that normal relations should be conducted through official channels and be based on approving the demarcation of the borders, prohibiting Palestinians arms outside refugee camps and revealing the fate of Lebanese detainees and missing in Syrian prisons.
