‘My Country Is Always Right’ Slogan ill-defined When the Patriarchy Is Attacked

Youssef Doueihy, candidate for the Maronite parliamentary seat in Zgharta, said that the slogan “my country is always right” was not correct when the Maronite patriarchy was attacked.

The slogan is not right when dictatorship is viewed as being correct, when totalitarianism becomes mandatory and when the Wilayat al-Faqih becomes a natural choice, he said.

Doueihy said that the upcoming parliamentary elections were historic, and the Lebanese Christians were aware and would not accept any mistakes in their choices or voting.

“On June 7, you will not choose between two lists, two horses or two men but between two nations: Either you will choose a Lebanon that embraces Lebanon or a Lebanon exploited by the outside,” he said, as he addressed participants in a mass celebrating the memorial of his father Semaan Doueihy in Zgharta on Sunday.

The choice in the elections is between two cultures, he said. The first is one of rivals, blackmail and an extension of the Iranian-Syrian regional axis, he said. The second was local and national, which emphasized the state’s values, equality and justice.

Doueihy said that weapons in people’s hands never resolved problems; rather they complicated things and subjected the country to destruction.
