Doha Agreement Ought To Expire On June 7
Minister of State for Administrative Reform Ibrahim Shamseddine said on Wednesday that “abiding by the Doha Agreement should end on June 7,” the day of the upcoming parliamentary elections.
Shamseddine said that the Taif Accord was the definitive reference for dealing with state issues, not the Doha Agreement.
He said that the Doha agreement was “for a specific time frame and for solving a specific incident,” and that it should not lead to “national stalemate.”
“The agreement should not be a reference for forming the executive authority post-elections,” he said, adding that “what concerns us is that the constitution is implemented correctly, and there is commitment to the Taif Accord.”
What was best for Lebanon was the construction of a civil state, which preserves all religions, for Christians and Muslims, Shamseddine concluded.
