Makari Says Minority Can Suddenly Unite

Deputy parliament speaker Farid Makari said Thursday that the parliamentary minority can overcome disagreements since its members follow the same "boss."

"The opposition is currently not united," he said in an interview with the Lebanese News Agency.

However, he said: "The minority can, all of a sudden, fall in line since it follows the same and one boss."

Makari criticized Hizbullah and the Free Patriotic Movement for their opposition to recent judicial appointments describing it as an attempt to "pre-empt the nominations in order to impose their own conditions."

On the legislative elections, Makari said the parliamentary majority will announce its tickets after March 14. He said the only finalized list was that of Koura and it includes himself, Nicolas Nasr and Farid Habib.

The deputy speaker then turned his attention to Syria, he described as "regretful" President Bashar Assad”s decision to include Hamas and Hizbullah in future peace talks with Israel.

He thought it "peculiar how some (countries) would allow themselves to go into (peace) negotiations while forbidding the Lebanese government from following the same path in order to return its territories."
