Nayla Tueni, Nadim Gemayel discuss Achrafieh polls

Deputy manager of An-Nahar newspaper Nayla Tueni and Nadim Gemayel, the son of late President Bachir Gemayel, both candidates for the June 7 parliamentary polls, met with residents of Achrafieh Saturday to discuss election issues and the situation in Lebanon.

Both are running on the March 14 alliance”s electoral list for the Beirut I district. Gemayel said the March 14 alliance will stick to its principles. "We will not go to Syria or to Iran, and we do not believe in giving cover to illegal weapons, whether they be the weapons of Hizbullah or others," Gemayel added, referring to the visits and political stances held by Free Patriotic Movement (FPM) leader Michel Aoun.

Tueini said she was sorry to see Lebanese who had once supported principles held by the March 14 alliance turn their support to Hizbullah, also in a clear reference to Aoun”s FPM. "We support the liberation of the land in the south, but later it appeared their weapons were directed against domestic enemies," she said.
