Aoun for Proportional Representation in New Cabinet
Free Patriotic Movement leader Michel Aoun said the new cabinet should be formed on the basis of "proportional representation" whereby each side would be represented depending on the number of votes it clinches in the parliamentary elections.
"Our current size gave us the right to participate in the current government with more than 11 ministers, but we committed to give the president two ministers while the other side decided to give him three ministers," Aoun told As Safir daily in remarks published Monday.
"We stuck to our commitment while they (March 14 forces) granted the president just one minister despite all their stances on the need to support him," the FPM leader stressed.
Opposition sources, meanwhile, told As Safir that Aoun”s verbal attacks against Druze leader Walid Jumblat were not only aimed at the Progressive Socialist Party chief but also at some opposition figures who have reportedly expressed readiness to enter into an alliance with Jumblat in some regions.
Aoun on Saturday slammed Jumblat without naming him, by saying: "Wouldn”t someone be a liar if he says that he lied for 25 years and took advantage of the tutelage regime”s powers to control his people and win?"
"When we see the respectful political in Lebanon saying on TV screens that he killed all those who were abducted, wouldn”t he be a murderer?" Aoun wondered.
