Only Ban Ki-moon can unveil the STL Lebanese judges’ names
Justice Minister Ibrahim Najjar said that UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon had the exclusive right to announce the names of the four Lebanese judges participating in the Special Tribunal for Lebanon.
In an interview with As-Sharq al-Awsat daily on Thursday, Najjar said that he believed the UN secretary general had not announced the names for legal or precautionary reasons, but had yet to give the Lebanese authorities an explanation.
The Internal Security Forces must transfer the four generals, arrested on suspicion that they were involved in the assassination of former Prime Minister Rafik Hariri, to the Hague if the tribunal demanded, Najjar told the daily.
An anonymous security official also told the daily that a special ISF force, which was approved by the cabinet, was formed to protect the four generals, their homes and their families. The official added that the force was ready to “begin its mission.”
The force consisted of 300 members belonging to the “Fouhoud,” known to be the strongest and most equipped division of the ISF, the official said.
