Geagea, Williams discuss election monitoring, detainees & peace talks
Lebanese Forces chief Samir Geagea on Thursday met with the UN secretary general representative in Lebanon, Michael Williams, for talks on politics in the region and Lebanon in particular.
Geagea emphasized the importance of the role international monitors overseeing the parliamentary elections in ensuring voters cast their ballots in a “democratic atmosphere.”
The two also agreed on the need close the file of detainees in Syrian prisons and discussed possible means to uncovering their fate and freeing those still alive.
The meeting also covered possible ways in which recent Israeli elections could bring peace to the region and the merits of emerging Arab reconciliation and its implications on Lebanon and the region.
