Voters will choose between sovereignty and Hezbollah’s state-within-a-state
Lebanese Forces MP Farid Habib told NOW Lebanon on Saturday that the March 14 alliance will announce its electoral list in the district of Koura at the end of next week. He added that the list will consist of himself, Deputy Speaker Farid Makari and Nicolas Ghosn.
He said that the LF candidates will remain the same: MP Strida Geagea and Elie Keyrouz in Bcharreh, Farid Habib in Koura and Antoine Zahra in Batroun. He added that retired Brigadier Wehbe Qatisha will be nominated for one of the two Orthodox seats in the March 14 list in Akkar.
Habib also said the electoral battle in North Lebanon will be similar to all other districts because the voters must choose between consolidating sovereignty and endorsing Hezbollah’s state-within-a-state.
He said that the list of the March 8 coalition in North has not yet been completed, explaining that so far it includes former MPs Fayez Ghosn and Salim Saadeh. He said the Free Patriotic Movement still has not chosen its candidate, but that their candidate will be Abdullah Zakhem, Gaby Dreik, Musaad Boulos, or George Atallah.
Habib stated that, except under the Syrian occupation, residents of Koura are accustomed to voting for patriotic candidates, and will prove one more time that they support the sovereign political path of the March 14 alliance.
He said that Change and Reform bloc leader MP Michel Aoun is still “dreaming of being the Lebanese president. Consequently, he thinks that the opposition will win the majority of parliamentary seats,” and will then find several Islamic rulings allowing them to achieve his dream, including one permitting a Hezbollah-mediated military coup.
Habib said he is confident that the Lebanese Armed Forces will prevent the occurrence of security conflicts during the upcoming elections, and loyal citizens will not be drawn into attempts to obstruct the electoral process.
