Lebanon Will Have Intervention-Free Elections
U.S. Ambassador to Lebanon Michele Sison said Tuesday that the upcoming legislative elections will take place free of any foreign "interference."
"Lebanon”s sovereignty, democracy, prosperity and stability are a priority for all of us," Sison told VDL radio in an interview.
"The Lebanese people will go to the ballot boxes on June 7 to vote for their candidates without being subjected to foreign interferences, intimidation and violence," she added.
Sisson conveyed Washington”s "encouragement" of the national dialogue launched by Lebanon”s political leadership, which has called for "the creation of a positive atmosphere to hold the elections."
"Washington is encouraged by this (kind of ) spirit (which says) “yes dialogue is possible,” she said.
Sison reiterated U.S. promises that "the American policy on Lebanon will never change." However, she stressed that the new administration of President Barack Obama was a "staunch believer of change, and that change is possible. (It) has long thrived to implement this strategy."
"The Lebanese people also believe in change and can feel it is possible," Sison added.
