Demarcation of border, non-intervention is of greater importance

In a press release issued after its weekly meeting on Friday, the National Bloc said the exchange of ambassadors between Lebanon and Syria was “natural,” but 65 years late. The party said border demarcation and non-intervention in Lebanon’s political and electoral spheres were still more important than appointing an ambassador.

The bloc slammed Free Patriotic Movement leader MP Michel Aoun for failing to keep his promise to nominate “retired generals” in the Marjayoun, Zahrani and Baalbek districts. “His allies, Hezbollah and Amal, refuse accepting the nominations, despite all the services and sacrifices he had offered them,” the bloc said.

The statement read that the opposition was adamant about obstructing the adoption of the state budget, so as to ensure extra spending for their projects. “Those forces have united to paralyze the cabinet for two and a half years” and had made the country lose hundreds of projects, the bloc said.

It added that the opposition parties were also united in calling for lowering the revenue of the state budget through cancelling gasoline taxes, while insisting on increasing expenses through paying compensations, the statement read.

The bloc said that what was most ironic was holding the “independent and sovereign forces,” a reference to the March 14 alliance, responsible for the national debt.
