FPM Against Central Bank Appointments
Cabinet ministers of the Free Patriotic Movement – Issam Abu Jamra, Jebral Bassil, and Mario Aoun — have expressed reservations over the appointments of the four deputies to the central bank governor.
The daily An Nahar on Friday said the FPM ministers complained that they were not consulted with for the final decision.
They argued that they were informed of the appointments on the same day.
The remarks were made during a Cabinet meeting on Thursday.
An Nahar said President Michel Suleiman stepped in, saying that the issue had been thoroughly examined and it was time to approve the appointments.
The president”s intervention prompted the opposition ministers from Gen. Michel Aoun”s FPM to retract their reservation on the appointments, voicing regret instead over the manner with which the appointments were made and not the names of the deputies to the central bank governor.
