Centrist bloc crucial amid these conditions

Former MP Nazem Khoury said in an interview with the Voice of Lebanon radio station on Saturday that a centrist bloc “is a must amid these conditions.” He added that “the centrist bloc does not belong to President Michel Sleiman, and he does not need it.”

According to Khoury “there is no centrist bloc with a unified electoral program, but instead there are centrist candidates in each district.”

He also said, “If I fail in the elections, it will be proof of President Michel Sleiman’s non-interference in the elections.

He spoke about his electoral program, saying it follows the goals of the President and “includes everything that develops and organizes the state.”

“There is no dispute between President Sleiman and Prime Minister Fouad Siniora,” Khoury said. He added that Siniora’s absence from the Arab Summit “is due to the fact that the president alone represents all of Lebanon.”

He said the Christian community is critical to deciding the upcoming parliamentary elections because other sects are almost unanimous in their political choice.

Khoury talked about the electoral situation in Jbeil, saying, “Jbeil is special, and no particular sect can be mobilized.” He added that “Aoun’s alliance is not with Shia sect in Jbeil, but with Hezbollah because the Shia sect in Jbeil has diverse affiliations.”
