Christian voters will decide the fate of the country

MP Samir Franjieh spoke to Voice of Lebanon radio station on Saturday, saying that “The electoral battle is in the Christian community, and the Christian voters will decide the country’s destiny.”

He added that the upcoming parliamentary elections are fateful, clarifying that “this does not mean that one bloc should eliminate the other, but fateful in the sense of state building.”

Franjieh said that “Lebanon cannot be government without one of its sects, but it also cannot be governed by the conditions set by one sect.”

Franjieh also said that “the centrist bloc should be supportive to the state and the president.”

“There is a crisis in the Lebanese system since 1943 between a weak state and an energetic citizenry. This contradiction should be reconciled,” he added.

Franjieh spoke about the March 14 alliance plans in the upcoming parliamentary elections, saying that “the situation of the March 14 alliance differs from that of other forces because it has multiple leaders, which makes decision making more difficult.”

“If the March 14 alliance runs in the elections based on a clear and agreed upon political program, I will run in the elections. But, if March 14 does not do so, I will not greedily seek a parliamentary seat,” he said.

Franjieh also criticized Free Patriotic Movement leader MP Michel Aoun, saying, “Aoun knows he will lose the battle, and I am not concerned with his statement that he will win 35 parliamentary seats.”

He also said, “The result of the elections is certain.”
