People are source of power
Future Movement leader MP Saad Hariri spoke on Thursday at the Arab Economic Forum held in Beirut and said the forthcoming parliamentary elections would be decisive, disagreeing with those who considered the elections to be secondary.
He confirmed that in democratic systems the people were the source of power and added that “people’s opinions could not be confiscated.”
“As politicians, we should call on people to renew their confidence [in us] based on a campaign program that supports coexistence,” he said.
Hariri also said the elections would shape Lebanon’s economy, because they represented an opportunity “to express persistence to have a free economic system.”
He added the Future Movement would announce its campaign program based on its experiences and would address the people who proved they could confront challenges. Hariri said the program aimed to improve and safeguard economic networks, limit poverty and achieve balanced development.
The MP said he hoped the states participating in the G20 summit in London would find a solution to dodge the negative repercussions of the global financial crisis.
He called for being ready for all possibilities by making joint efforts and improving the region, especially because of Arab economic inter-dependency.
Hariri concluded that Lebanon played “an extraordinary and unique role in the region, and called for safeguarding and developing it.”
