Israel Says Will Continue Over Flights in Lebanon
The Israeli army confirmed on Thursday a decision to maintain military over flights in Lebanon”s airspace in violation of Security Council Resolution 1701.
The Lebanese Army said that on Wednesday at least 16 Israeli planes staged reconnaissance flights across Lebanon for more than an hour.
In its statement, the Israeli army did not deny or confirm the Lebanese report but security officials "reaffirmed Israel”s right to continue to survey areas that pose a threat to its security."
The officials said that "Hizbullah continues to smuggle weapons in violation of 1701 forcing Israel take necessary measures to monitor the area."
UNIFIL has repeatedly complained about Israel”s over flights and has urged the country to abide by the U.N. resolution.
