Salam calls for toning down political rhetoric
Culture Minister Tamam Salam called for toning down political rhetoric “that may disrupt the general atmosphere, and instead use positive and constructive rhetoric that will not drag the country or its citizens into harmful confrontation.”
In a statement issued on Thursday, Salam said that the upcoming “elections are a national occasion that will pave the way for practicing democracy, and will enhance the democratic system that we are all committed to preserving and developing in a form that serves Lebanon’s sovereignty, freedom and independence.”
Salam also said he was confident that the elections on June 7 would be “carried out successfully, despite the disadvantages and points of weakness in the adopted electoral law.”
The new plan to hold the elections in a single day was “a modern step that would be guaranteed by the Interior Ministry, which is managed by a devoted, practical and vibrant minister,” Ziad Baroud, Salam added.
