Differing opinions welcome as long as violence is avoided

In an interview with al-Massira magazine to be published on Saturday, Lebanese Forces MP Antoine Zahra said that the March 14 alliance continued its discussions on the finalization of its electoral lists.

The lists may not be completed by April 7, but by April 22, the deadline for withdrawing candidacy, Zahra said.

The delay was the result of “some forces such as our closest ally, the Kataeb party that is increasing the number of its candidates in order to withdraw some and keep others in the end.”

However, Zahra said, the LF would not do so, and that he was the party’s natural candidate in the Batroun district.

The LF would also have candidates in the Chouf, Metn and the North, and may have a nominee in northern Bekaa to “prove its existence and not let the elections pass as if there was surrender to the numerical majority.”

Zahra also said the LF supported the right to differing opinions as long as it did not lead to violence, adding that his party would only resort to the army to confront such attempts.
