Interior Minister Baroud Calls for Security during Elections
Interior Minister Ziad Baroud has expressed his contentment with the desire of Lebanese political parties to see the elections through "without any violence" and called for "avoiding security surprises."
In an announcement on Saturday, Baroud voiced his pleasure at the "desire of various [political] forces to run the elections in June without any violence," adding he expected that the voting process would take place peacefully.
He called for "respecting political sides and ensuring that no disturbances occur."
Baroud indicated that around 30,000 members of the police, army, and security forces would be deployed on election day along with European monitors.
