Edde Launches His Campaign in Jebeil: Kerserwan Candidacy Not Final
The leader of the National Bloc MP Carlos Edde launched his campaign on Saturday in Jebeil (Byblos), denying press reports that he is a candidate for the Keserwan region against Free Patriotic Movement leader Michel Aoun, and adding that his decision is "not final and not serious yet."
"Election laws in Lebanon force all of us to enter into political discussions, alliances and an exchange of votes. Hence, wining or losing is dependent on political alliances more than anything else," Edde said in a press conference at his party”s headquarters.
He added that his party is to focus on singe districts as this will allow for "natural and democratic elections."
Edde reiterated his faith in respecting the popular will of the people, regardless of the results.
"I have thought for a while of raising the tone my political speech. This gave me the idea of running at Keserwan, particularly when there are a lot of candidates in Jebeil. I have decided to study the matter for its pros and cons," Edde said.
The party leader went on to add that his heart is in Jebeil where he feels a certain emotional attachment despite the fact that he spent his youth in Kserewan.
"The National Bloc is working toward comprehensive solutions. It believes in exchanged sacrifices to attain [our] high goal. My political speech goes beyond that of the March 14 Forces," Edde said.
He explained that March 14 Forces made many unacceptable concessions at Doha and in the cabinet statement.
