Our friendship with Syria protects us from future hegemony
Telecommunications Minister Gebran Basil called the elections “the outcome of an ongoing process and persistent efforts.”
While opening an electoral office for the Free Patriotic Movement on Sunday in Batroun, Bassil said, “These elections will be won by those who cling to their land. We took positions that saved the country at that time. The MoU protected [domestic unity in] Lebanon during the 2006 July War.”
“As for preserving sovereignty and independence after Syria’s withdrawal from Lebanon, the friendship which we have established with them will protect us from any future hegemony,” Basil said.
