I will not run in election, 600 candidates registered thus far
Interior Minister Ziad Baroud said on Tuesday that the “number of candidates for the parliamentary elections has reached 600… and may increase until midnight.”
In an interview with Voice of Lebanon Radio Station, Baroud said, “I will not run for the elections, and this is in line with my portfolio as interior minister and the missions assigned to me by President,” Michel Sleiman.
He also said that he proposed to Prime Minister Fouad Siniora that June 8, the day after the elections, be deemed an official holiday to allow the schools that would be used as voting centers to recuperate.
