Any Talk Regarding Postponing Elections Not True
Interior Minister Ziad Baroud said that any talk about postponing the legislative elections scheduled to be held on June 7th is not true.
He also added that the number of running candidates is 701 following the withdrawal of Nazrat Sabonjian an Orthodox candidate from the Metn.
In a press conference on Wednesday, Baroud said that any candidate has the right to pull out of the race by midnight 22nd of April.
The minister said that the election supervisory body is to soon issue a booklet detailing all aspects related to the 2009 election campaign. He added that the ministry is in need of 30,000 security officers to cover the event on June 7.
"We are on an equal basis from all political parties, any complaint would receive serious consideration and,"Baroud said.
He disclosed that various international organizations have requested permission to independently monitor the parliamentary elections.
