Less Tension, No Berri-Aoun Solution in Baabda, Jezzine
Channels of communication between Ein el-Tineh and Rabiyeh were getting hot as Hizbullah stepped in trying to find a way out of the dispute between Speaker Nabih Berri and Gen. Michel Aoun.
A significant event took place on Wednesday when MPs Ali Hassan Khalil and Ibrahim Kenaan visited Interior Minister Ziad Baroud, which was seen an opportunity to deny the existence of the divergence between Berri and Aoun.
Khalil acknowledged the existence of a divergence in point of views in some electoral districts with Aoun”s Free Patriotic Movement.
"We shall continue negotiations. We have not reached a dead end," Khalil stressed in remarks published by several Beirut dailies on Thursday.
Kanaan, in turn, denied having "difference of opinion" with AMAL.
"We are with respecting the privacy of each movement and party and with respecting each other”s opinions," Kanaan said.
As Safir newspaper said a senior Hizbullah official visited Berri in Ein el-Tineh on Wednesday in an effort to find a face-saving exit to this difficult situation.
