Christian vote significant in defining next period
March 14 General Secretariat Coordinator Fares Soueid said that the “Christian voters in the elections are the base of the electoral battle and would determine Lebanon’s identity.”
Following a meeting with National Liberal party leader Dory Chamoun on Friday, Soueid said, “There is no personal problem with [Free Patriotic Movement leader MP] Michel Aoun. We have a problem with the Memorandum of Understanding that is covering up for the practices of the Resistance on Lebanon’s territories.”
The FPM and Hezbollah signed the memorandum in February 2006.
Soueid added, “Today this party [Hezbollah] is beginning to operate outside the Lebanese borders. Will they expand this understanding to also cover up for a non-Lebanese member of Hezbollah? This endangers Lebanon and the Christians.”
He said that the intelligence branch of the Internal Security Forces’ recent discovery of an espionage network spying in Lebanon for Israel proved that the ISF was working objectively and in a “highly professional” manner.
