Geagea and Gemayel confirm March 14’s unity
Head of the Lebanese Forces Executive Council Samir Geagea on Tuesday called on the March 14 alliance to be unified “or else we do not know what Lebanon’s future will be.”
After meeting with Sami Gemayel in Maarab, a candidate for the Maronite seat in the Metn district in the upcoming parliamentary elections, Geagea said that the LF would support all Kataeb’s candidates in all districts.
Geagea accused the opposition of calling on the parliament to convene just before the elections, while it was responsible for closing the parliament for over a year when assassinations were taking place.
Geagea also called for decreasing all taxes, not only those on gasoline prices, and said that the parliamentary sessions “aim to embarrass us.”
Regarding Democratic Gathering bloc leader MP Walid Jumblatt’s recent speech, where he verbally attacked Maronites and Sunnis, Geagea said, “We trust ourselves and we know who we really are no matter what others think about us. We offered many sacrifices in favor of the March 14 alliance and the Cedar Revolution, and one more sacrifice will not affect us.”
Gemayel, in turn, said that he expressed reservation toward Jumblatt’s speech. “The Kataeb party wanted to bring Lebanese together, not separate them,” he added.
“The unity of the Mountain is a priority. We overcame harder times before. We are adamant about forging good relations with the Progressive Socialist Party and between Christians and Druze,” Gemayel said.
Gemayel concluded that the March 14 alliance’s electoral list in the Metn district would be announced on Sunday.
