Sfeir Meets Sami Gemayel: Youth Are Driving Force in Lebanon
Maronite Patriarch Nasrallah Sfeir on Wednesday voiced support for "new blood" in Parliament, throwing his weight behind Lebanon”s youth movements as the driving force that the country depends on.
In talks with Phalange candidate Sami Gemayel, Sfeir reiterated calls for the elections to be held in an "atmosphere of impartiality and calm."
For his part, Gemayel said despite some "disagreements" in March 14 over the formation of tickets, the alliance is still "united over its goals to defend Lebanon and to safeguard the Lebanese state and the system of democracy."
Pledging commitment to Sfeir”s positions, Gemayel called on the Christian communities, "especially the Maronites to abide by (the patriarch”s) speech by handling the unforeseen realities on the ground."
Gemayel said the Metn ticket has been completed and candidates will meet in the coming days to review final details. A political declaration will then be issued following to explain the list”s main principles.
