Political parties should commit to calmness

Lebanese forces MP Antoine Zahra called on Thursday all the parties to “commit, as the LF has, to entering a calm and democratic atmosphere for the election period without reverting to violence, intimidation and methods that are rejected in civilized societies.”

While visiting a restaurant in Chekka owned by a LF supporter that was burnt down and sabotaged last night, Zahra called on the “security forces and the Lebanese Armed Forces to further heighten their security measures” to protect its citizens.

There were still “foreign armed individuals who reside in Chekka, and we want the city to be inhabited only by its original residents that understand each other. Those foreign individuals are still residing in their posts… and they are not committed to what was agreed upon in Doha,” Zahra said.

Zahra also asked President Michel Sleiman and Interior Minister Ziad Baroud to “exert efforts to maintain calmness, because we cannot participate in the elections amid a tense security environment.”
