“Lebanese unity based on unity of Mount Lebanon”
The National Liberal Party (NLP) said Friday Lebanon”s unity was "based on the unity of Mount Lebanon, which is characterized by its diversity."
In a statement issued following NLP”s weekly meeting, presided over by its president Dory Chamoun, the group said different families and sects in the Mountain were crucial to preserve coexistence, democracy and human rights, and to defend "a free and independent nation." The party called on the March 14 alliance to reorganize its ranks and "to work to overcome the remnants of the negative discussions that accompany" all parliamentary elections.
The NLP asked the committee overseeing the upcoming elections, which the party said trusted its members” objectivity, to confront all attempts to sabotage the electoral process or to alter the election”s results. The party also reiterated its demand to make the pending Constitutional Council appointments, so that the elections would be "transparent and honest."
