Have those guilty of cursing the Patriarch apologised?
Member of the March 14 alliance’s secretariat general Michel Mouawad said on Sunday there is only one valid concept for a state, which is a state that exercises its authority over all its territories with one set of laws. It is necessary to have “a state that that has one arsenal, one decision and one constitution, which is the Taif Accord,” he said.
Mouawad called on voters during a lunch hosted by the Independence Movement to vote for stability in order to distance Lebanon from regional conflicts “because there can be no stability if Lebanon returns to being a regional battlefield and a base for launching rockets for non-Lebanese interests.” Mouawad said he is committed to Arab causes, including that of a Palestinian state.
“There are mistakes in March 14 and sins in March 8,” he said.
Mouawad commented on the leaked footage of Progressive Socialist Party Leader MP Walid Jumblatt insulting Maronites and Sunnis in a closed meeting, saying, “Walid Jumblatt’s statements are totally rejected not only because they are an insult to each person and faction in Lebanon but because it revives the isolationist trend that had gone on for a long time before it was erased by the Taif Accord, the Mountain reconciliation and the retrieval of independence.” He said it is unacceptable to hear such statements anymore, but praised Jumblatt for his apology.
Mouawad noted that others insulted the Maronite Patriarch and have not apologized yet. “They covered the elections, cursed our martyrs, occupied Beirut and Lebanon, used their weapons against us on May 7 and killed the Lebanese. They killed the Lebanese army captain in Soujoud, and attacked the army and the Internal Security Forces. Every day he threatens us and closes media institutions without apologizing.”
