Suleiman in London, Britain Lauds President”s Role
President Michel Suleiman begins on Wednesday his three-day official visit to Britain with a meeting with Queen Elizabeth II at Buckingham Palace.
Suleiman will also meet with Defense Secretary John Hutton Wednesday. He will hold talks with Prime Minister Gordon Brown and Foreign Secretary David Miliband on Thursday.
British Foreign Office spokesman Barry Marston lauded Suleiman”s role since his election last year. He told pan-Arab daily al-Hayat that the president "is personally playing a fundamental role in bringing together points of views of different Lebanese parties."
He said Suleiman is also playing a role in facing the economic crisis and finding job opportunities for youth. Lebanon witnessed "positive changes" in the past nine months, according to the spokesman.
Marston said Suleiman will also discuss with British officials the Special Tribunal for Lebanon, stressing that Britain wants the Lebanese to know that London "considers it (the court) very important for achieving justice."
The president and the first lady arrived in London on Tuesday accompanied by an official delegation.
