March 8 attack on judiciary is "coup d’état"
Lebanon is at a dangerous crossroad, and if attacks on the judiciary institutions persist, "then this is an attempt at coup d’état by the March 8 coalition,” MP Boutros Harb told LBC on Friday, in reference to recent criticism of Lebanon”s judiciary after the Special Tribunal for Lebanon released the four detained generals who were held on suspect of involvement in the assassination of former Prime Minister Hariri since 2005.
There "is a lack in March 8″s political knowledge," because they consider the executive power higher than the judicial power, which contradicts the separation of powers stated in the constitution, Harb told LBC.
STL General Prosecutor Daniel Bellemare saw that the current evidence in the Hariri assassination case was not enough to keep the four generals in custody, Harb said, adding, “However, the investigation continues, and any new evidence concerning the four generals may lead to their arrest.”
