Lebanese parties facilitated escape of army attackers
Coordinator of the March 14 General Secretariat Fares Soueid said that the information regarding the arrest of Hussein Jaafar—the main culprit responsible for the deadly ambush on the Lebanese army last month in the Bekaa that left four soldiers dead— over Turkish territories proved that some Lebanese parties facilitated his escape and the presence of a state-within-state.
During a meeting on Saturday with doctors in Jbeil who are pro-March 14, Soueid said that the March 8 coalition threatened to carry out a renewed attack similar to the May 7 events, when Hezbollah supporters took over West Beirut and brought the capital to a halt. The coordinator noted that the March 14 alliance aimed to win the majority of parliamentary seats and “end the Christian support for Hezbollah” represented by Change and Reform bloc leader MP Michel Aoun.
Soueid concluded that March 14’s victory in the upcoming parliamentary elections will pave the way to find a permanent solution for illegal weapons, distance Lebanon from regional conflicts and ensure peace reigns in the country.
