Gunmen Steal 140,000 Euros from Lebanese Businessman”s Vehicle
Unknown assailants snatched 140,000 euros from a Lebanese businessman who was on his way from Beirut airport to his home in the western Bekaa town of Jeb Jenine, the National News Agency reported Saturday.
NNA said Issam Sharaneq arrived at Rafik Hariri international airport at 12:30 am Saturday and took his BMW vehicle that he had parked at a nearby parking lot during his three-day trip to Spain.
Sharaneq, however, realized that a Mercedes was following him. He tried to evade it after entering the town of Aley. The man later took the Beirut-Damascus highway on his way to Jeb Jenine. But two Sports Utility Vehicles, a Cherokee and an Envoy, intercepted him and their riders forced him out of his vehicle at gunpoint.
One of the gunmen sped away with Sharaneq”s BMW while the others continued their way with the two SUVs, according to NNA.
The news agency said the businessman had left in the vehicle his mobile phone and his bag in which he had 140,000 euros.
Security forces found Sharaneq”s car Saturday morning.
