State within state, May 7 events and terrorism rejected
At a meeting to launch the website and first edition of the Independence Movement, candidate for the Maronite seat in the Zgharta district Michel Mouawad rejected reverting “to the time that preceded March 14, 2005, when there were attempts to present the four generals held in connection with the 2005 assassination of former Prime Minister Rafik Hariri as heroes.”
“We do not want to return to the state-within-state,” a reference to Hezbollah, “the May 7 events, the security zones, terrorism and the attempts to turn Lebanon into a site for rocket-launching and attaining foreign agendas,” he said.
Mouawad also said that June 7, which is the scheduled date for Election Day, would mark a change in Zgharta, calling on the March 14 alliance to remain united.
