UNIFIL-Lebanese Military Partnership Contributed to New Atmosphere
United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Peacekeeping Operations Alain Le Roy said that the strategic partnership between the United Nations Interim Force for Lebanon (UNIFIL) and the Lebanese armed forces has helped in establishing a new strategic atmosphere in south Lebanon.
Following his visit to President Michel Suleiman on Tuesday Le Roy said the effective responsibility by the Lebanese armed forces in working at UNIFIL operational region is important stressing that the international community”s support to the Lebanese military capabilities is ongoing.
Le Roy praised Lebanon”s commitments to implementing the United Nations resolution 1701 adding that this is an important opportunity for securing a permanent ceasefire and a sustainable settlement as stated in the international resolution.
