Election winner will govern, loser will hold winner accountable
President Michel Sleiman said that the international community is dealing with Lebanon on a basis of equality, which preserves the rights of all the Lebanese parties.
While receiving diplomats at the presidential Palace in Baabda on Friday, Sleiman said that Israel has been taught a lesson, defeated in the South, and can’t attack Lebanon again.
He said that the elections will help produce stronger democratic representation in Lebanon, and will lead to more stability.
He said that the election’s winners should bear the burden of revealing Lebanon’s role and preserving its stability, whereas the loser’s role would be to supervise the function of the government and urge it to change when necessary. It is a role which is more important than the role of the winner, which democracy grants to the loser, especially when it’s a close win.”
Sleiman also telephoned the Director General of the Internal Security Forces Achraf Rifi and congratulated him on the latest discovery of a new Israeli spy network in the South.
