Those who were declaring war on Syria in the past are now defenders
Mount Lebanon Mufti Mohammad Ali al-Jouzou hosted a Lebanese Forces delegation headed by MP George Adwan on Sunday in Jiyeh. Jouzou said that that “the same people who were attacking Syria and declaring war on it are today defending it and its crimes.” In his comment Jouzou referred to Free Patriotic Movement leader MP Michel Aoun.
“We remind them that they did not come back to Lebanon or reach the Lebanese parliament without the bloods of the Martyrs, especially Former Prime Minister Rafik Hariri,” he added.
Jouzou also said, “We cannot lift Lebanon up if we are fighting. The Lebanese citizens are the only losers from all these fights.”
Jouzou said that those who speak about the marginalization of the Christians should know that there was never any marginalization. He explained that there were always Christian presidents during the Syrian occupation of Lebanon, but some of them sold themselves to the “devil” and became a political tool used against the Christians.
Adwan said that Christians used to believe that there is a competition between Arabism and Lebanese nationalism. After the assassination of PM Rafik Hariri, Adwan added, both the Christians and the Muslims felt that Lebanon should come first.
“Arabism completes the independence and sovereignty of Lebanon. Our Arab brothers are here to support this independence,” he said. He also said that nothing should destabilize these good relations with Arabs.
“Weapons do not protect Lebanon. Only the unity of the Lebanese, Christians and Muslims can protect us,” Adwan concluded.
