Aoun’s policy platform based on “accusations and conspiracy”
Candidate for the Maronite seat in the Jbeil district Nazem al-Khoury said in an interview with the Voice of Lebanon radio station on Tuesday that he regretted Change and Reform bloc leader MP Michel Aoun’s speech against President Michel Sleiman. Aoun had accused Sleiman of colluding in a “world war” waged against him.
Khoury, who was also Sleiman’s advisor before running in the upcoming parliamentary elections, criticized Aoun’s policy, which he said was “based on accusations and conspiracy.”
“Who is good in Aoun’s opinion?” Khoury asked, saying that the bloc leader was never satisfied with the performance of either Sleiman or Maronite Patriarch Nasrallah Boutros Sfeir.
Khoury also said that he intended to form an independent electoral list in Jbeil “to organize the political life there” and called for appointing the five remaining members of the Constitutional Council, which is fundamental to the elections, especially since it is the framework to which candidates appeal to in case they want a recount of votes in any given district.
Khoury added, “Sleiman will put pressure to make the appointments, and he might resort to a voting process within the cabinet” to assure that the appointments are made prior to the elections, which are scheduled for June 7.
