MP Murr and I largely contributed to Aoun’s bloc in 2005

Independent candidate for Maronite seat in the Kesrouan district former minister Fares Boueiz said that MP Michel al-Murr and he largely contributed to Free Patriotic Movement leader MP Michel Aoun’s considerable parliamentary bloc in the 2005 parliamentary elections.

Boueiz told Future News Wednesday night that Aoun “profited from his return from exile and from the reactions to the quadripartite alliance,” which included Hezbollah, the Amal Movement, Progressive Socialist Party and the Future Movement in the 2005 elections, “and the Syria Accountability and Lebanese Sovereignty Restoration Act (SALSRA),” which is a bill of the United States Congress passed into law in December 2003.

The former minister said that he was used as “bate” by Aoun to ensure the commitment of Change and Reform bloc MPs Nematallah Abi Nasr and Gilbert Zouein “in an attempt to force them to comply with certain financial requests.”

Boueiz added that he cannot accept “a parliamentary seat” limited by Aoun “or a blind commitment.”

“MP Aoun had always told me that it is shameful that a person [with such potential] remains outside parliament, and this is why we should cooperate together,” he said.

Boueiz also said that when the Kesrouan residents need the assistance of their current FPM deputies, “they cannot find them in the area or the country.”

He explained that he did not “turn against anyone, the others turned against me. Fares Boueiz was and will always remain independent. I am currently an independent candidate in the upcoming parliamentary elections, and I am allied with an independent list.”

He said that neither the character nor the nature of President Michel Sleiman would allow him to interfere in the electoral process. “Some might consider removing the president, and this is a risk that puts Lebanon on a cliff edge, and I am afraid for the president’s security and personal safety,” Boueiz said.
