Ammar Pulls Out of Sidon Race
The head of the Jamaa Islamia”s politburo Dr. Ali al-Sheikh Ammar announced his withdrawal from the election race from Sidon [the Sunni seat] to benefit al-Mustaqbal Movement candidate Prime Minister Fouad Saniora and Education Minister Bahia Hariri.
This recent development is evident of the signed agreement made between al-Jamaa and al Mustaqbal Movement leader MP Saad Hariri that fostered cooperation and alliance during the 2009 parliamentary elections according to the daily al-Liwaa.
The paper added that Saniora visited Sidon on Friday afternoon and met with Jamaa leading figures.
"In the end we are all residents of the same city, we all grew up together on the same values and standards … I am keen as you are on cooperating together for the city”s benefit." Al-Liwaa quoted Saniora saying to Ammar.
