March 14 Koura list thwarts “Third Republic project“
Deputy Speaker Farid Makari called on the Koura residents on Monday to vote for the March 14 alliance list that includes MPs Farid Habib and Nicolas Ghosn to prevent the establishment of the Third Republic, in reference to the Free Patriotic Movement’s campaign slogan.
During a meeting with the Koura residents, Makari warned against the project, which he said aims at overthrowing the Second Republic that was established following the Taif Accord. He added that the Third Republic’s goal was to impose a three-way power sharing division between Sunni, Shia, and Christians, instead of equally between Christians and Muslims.
“The opposition is shamelessly announcing that they want Lebanon to adopt the May 7 image,” Makari said, a reference to the May 7 events when opposition-led supporters took over West Beirut bringing the capital to a standstill.
