Free elections, minus pressure and intimidation
Lebanon’s Grand Mufti Mohammad Rashid Qabbani stressed that “it is necessary for the elections to be conducted in an atmosphere of absolute freedom to allow Lebanese citizens to express their electoral choice and prevent pressure, coercion or security incidents for intimidation.”
After his meeting with the head of the European Commission to monitor the Elections Jose Ignasio Salafranca Sanchez Nira, Qabbani lauded “the importance of the role of the European Commission members and president to monitor the elections and reveal any attempts to disrupt the elections.”
He also highlighted the role of the Interior Ministry and the Lebanese army in securing voters’ right to “free and honest elections.”
