Hizbullah Will Not Be Disarmed until the Displaced Return to the Shouf
MP Michel Aoun on Wednesday reiterated opposition to disarming Hizbullah as long as there are weapons being used to drive people away from their towns.
"You cannot disarm someone who is defending the land as long as there are weapons being used to displace (people)," Aoun told visiting delegations from the Shouf.
"Lebanon will not disarm anyone before the people of the Shouf return to the Shouf," he said.
"How can we believe their words on fighting the settlement (of Palestinian refugees) when they are displacing their compatriots," Aoun asked.
He slammed political rivals for demanding the removal of Hizbullah”s weapons, "which is defending this homeland, while they ignore the arms that are preventing the displaced from returning to their villages."
Aoun accused opponents of "fooling the minds and emotions of the people" when they warn that Hizbullah chief Hassan Nasrallah will control the country if the minority wins the elections.
Aoun expressed surprise at how some "issue lies (about him) including a story that he called reducing the (current) president”s term in office."
"Any amendment to the president”s term requires three-quarters of (Parliament) votes. Let”s say we had that, who said that then we will still need the presidency. Then we will be ruling Lebanon and we will be hunting," he said.
He said that since MP Saad Hariri is a supporter of the president "he should propose a constitutional amendment to strengthen presidential jurisdictions."
