Progressive Socialist Party leader Walid Jumblat called for strengthening the powers of the president.
"I”m for strengthening the president”s power in order to find a solution to the veto threat in the government, provided this takes place in the framework of the Taef accord," Jumblat said in an interview with the daily As Safir published on Thursday.
"The President needs to act as an effective president," he believed, adding that the head of state also should be given capacity to govern.
"I”m not a constitutional expert. However, we should find a procedure to combine the concept of Taef accord and the need to reconsider the President”s powers," Jumblat went on.
