The complex issue of Beirut 1 constituency was resolved Thursday with the withdrawal of Lebanese Forces (LF) candidate Richard Kouyoumjian "for the higher interest of March 14 forces and the Cedar Revolution."
"We are the largest electoral force among March 14 forces in Beirut 1," LF leader Samir Geagea said at a press conference in Maarab.
"We are proud of our positions and are always ready to offer sacrifices," he added.
"That”s why we have decided to withdraw the Lebanese Forces candidate in Ashrafieh, Richard Kouyoumjian," Geagea said.
Geagea stressed that "there are no differences between us and the Armenians," urging "LF members in Beirut to vote for the entire list."
"No matter how it is formed, the Cedar Revolution”s list is our list," he said.
"Ashrafieh was and will remain the beginning," the Lebanese Forces leader added.
Kouyoumjian confirmed that "he will always be a soldier in the service of Lebanon and the Armenians."
Geagea wrapped the conference up by saying that "Qumujian has become responsible for the electoral campaign of the Lebanese Forces in Lebanon."
