Mitchell Visits Lebanon Next Month
U.S. special envoy to the Middle East George Mitchell will visit Beirut mid-June to update Lebanese officials on the prospects of the peace process in the region.
Michell”s trip follows this week”s visit to Lebanon by U.S. Vice President Joseph Biden, where he met with Lebanese officials.
A source, who met Biden, told An Nahar newspaper that Biden”s trip comes as part of preparations for President Barack Obama”s trip to Egypt on June 4 to address the Muslim world.
"It was noticeable that Lebanon was integrated in the atmosphere of talks (on the peace process) between the U.S. president and each of Jordan”s King Abdullah II and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu before presenting his ideas in Cairo," he added.
