Aoun Criticizes President, Vows to Wipe Out Corruption
Free Patriotic Movement leader Gen. Michel Aoun criticized President Michel Suleiman on Sunday, telling him: "You have the right to nominate persons, but you are not entitled to use public administrations and official institutions in favor of those candidates."
Aoun described the state as a fish.
"If the head of a fish decomposes, then the entire body will rot," he told delegations form north Lebanon who called on him in Rabiyeh.
He pledged to eliminate corruption.
"I swear by the sky, whatever its color, that we will wipe out corruption and establish a third republic," Aoun vowed.
The FPM leader ridiculed reports that said Hezbollah chief Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah would rule Lebanon if the opposition wins the elections.
"I have a lust for governance and I will not give Sayyed Nasrallah the pleasure to rule," Aoun said sarcastically.
Responding to a question on Wilayat al-Faqih and whether it is applicable in Lebanon, Aoun said: "It is impossible to apply Wilayat al-Faqih in Lebanon because it is only applicable within the Shiite sect."
Aoun said he believed the Christian bloc would be the largest within the opposition.
