Third Republic was established subsequent to 2005
In an interview with the Voice of Lebanon radio station on Saturday, Maronite Bishop of Jbeil Bechara Al-Rahi rejected prioritizing the resistance over Lebanon and called on the politicians to explain their electoral programs instead of using tense political rhetoric.
“We are currently in the Third Republic because the First Republic followed Lebanon’s independence in 1943, the Second Republic followed the Lebanese civil war, and the Third Republic was established after 2005,” he said in reference to the assassination of former Prime Minister Rafik Hariri.
He added that the country has no interest in being dragged into regional conflicts and hopes that Christians, whether they are affiliated with the March 14 alliance or the March 8 coalition, will not supported any regional axis.
